The last ADE of TrouwAmsterdam
In a 5-year period Club Trouw has earned the same status as Berlin techno temple Berghain: clubbers flock here from around the world to dance the night, morning or entire weekend away in the industrial decor of the former newspaper printer at the windy Wibautstraat. But soon there will be no more: Trouw is closing its doors. This will be the legendary nightclub’s last ADE.
The best club in the Netherlands
This year, readers of DJ Mag have voted Trouw the best club in the Netherlands. On the international ranking, the Amsterdam club came in 27th place, only a few spots behind famous Berlin dance Mecca Berghain. According to the prestigious magazine, the club owes its ranking to the limited capacity and intimate setting, progressive programming, cultural programmes created in partnership with the Stedelijk Museum, EYE and Concertgebouw, and the contemporary vegetarian restaurant which serves organic vegetables in portions meant to be shared. Trouw was the first Amsterdam club with a 24-hour license, which greatly enhanced its international prestige. Berlin, Paris and São Paulo have all hosted Trouw club nights. At the Amsterdam location, celebrities such as Âme, Trentemøller, Seth Troxler, Erol Alkan, Ben Klock and Laurent Garnier were regulars. But unfortunately the inevitable will happen: the best club in the Netherlands will close.
The man behind Trouw: Olaf Boswijk
Owner Olaf Boswijk, who first made Club 11 in the (now demolished) Post CS-building a huge success, knew beforehand that Trouw would have a limited run. Initially the club in the former printer of newspaper Trouw was meant to last for 2 years, but the contract was extended twice. After 5 years, the doors will close for good; the property has been sold to a new owner and will be thoroughly renovated before reopening up next year as a student hotel. But ADE is not the final call for Trouw; the club’s last hurray will take place on 3 January 2015. Boswijk hasn’t revealed if he has any plans for a sequel to Trouw.
